The short version
- Bukulu is a paid app: a monthly or yearly subscription that renews until you cancel, or a one-time lifetime purchase. A plan unlocks the whole app; there are no ads and no extra in-app purchases.
- You pay, cancel and ask for refunds through the App Store or Google Play.
- Your library is yours. Even without a plan, you can always export, back up and delete it.
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and the Bukulu developer (“we”, “us”) about the Bukulu app (“the app”). By downloading or using the app you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how data is handled.
1. Store terms
If you got the app from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (Standard EULA) applies, and these Terms add to it. If the two conflict, the Standard EULA wins. Apple is not responsible for the app or its support. If you got the app from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply.
2. Plans and payment
- Plans. The app offers a monthly subscription, a yearly subscription and a lifetime purchase. The paywall shows each plan's price in your currency, what it includes, and its renewal period before you buy.
- Payment. Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account when you confirm the purchase.
- Auto-renewal. Monthly and yearly subscriptions renew automatically at the same price and length unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- Free trials. When the store offers a free trial, the paywall shows its length and the price that follows. If you don't cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, it turns into a paid subscription and you are charged. The app reminds you before the trial ends if notifications are on. On the App Store, any unused part of a free trial ends when you buy a subscription.
- Lifetime. A single payment that unlocks the app for as long as we offer it on your platform. It doesn't renew.
- Price changes. If a subscription price changes, the store tells you in advance and, where the rules require it, asks for your consent before you are charged the new price.
- Taxes. Prices may include taxes such as VAT, as shown by the store.
3. Cancelling and refunds
- Cancel any time in your store account. On iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions. On Android: Google Play → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. In the app, Settings → Subscription → Manage subscription takes you there. Deleting the app doesn't cancel a subscription.
- After you cancel, you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies; we can't issue them ourselves. Ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com or Google through the Google Play refund page. Nothing here limits refund or withdrawal rights you have under the law where you live.
- Restore a plan on a new phone with Restore purchases on the paywall or in Settings → Subscription, signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account.
4. When you don't have an active plan
Without an active plan or trial, the app shows the paywall instead of your library. Your data is not deleted. You can still export your library, create and restore backups, import, and delete your data from the paywall's Your data link. If your subscription ends during a reading session, the session is saved first.
5. Your content
The books, notes, quotes and other content you add are yours. They are stored on your device, so we can't restore them if your phone is lost, reset or the app is deleted. Use the app's backup and export to keep a copy.
6. Book information from other services
Book details and covers come from Google Books and Open Library. They may be incomplete or wrong, and covers belong to their publishers or creators. You can edit any book in the app. We are not responsible for these services or their availability.
7. Fair use of the app
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, as allowed by the store rules. Please don't copy, resell, or reverse-engineer the app, get around its purchase checks, or use it to break the law or anyone's rights.
8. Changes and availability
We may update the app and change or remove features. If we change these Terms, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll tell you in the app before they take effect. If you keep using the app after that, the new Terms apply.
9. Disclaimer and liability
We work hard to keep the app reliable, but it is provided “as is” and we can't promise it will always be free of errors or interruptions. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data you didn't back up, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can't be changed by contract, or liability that can't be limited by law.
10. Ending these Terms
You can stop using the app at any time by deleting it (and cancelling any subscription in your store account). We may end your licence if you seriously break these Terms. Sections 5, 6, 9 and 10 continue after these Terms end.
